The Jaffa Institute
View the agency’s website
Yet again, more heroes! In the view of our board of trustees, just about every
one of the agencies for which we try to raise funds is on a heroic mission and
doing heroic work! We hope you agree. Twenty years ago, the Jaffa Institute came
into being. In 2001, it won the Most Outstanding Volunteer Organization Award.
Its mission is “to rescue children at risk from those nasty streets of those
parts of Jaffa” we don't see when we tour the ancient city. At first, Jaffa
Institute provided a safe boy's club/girl's club atmosphere for kids from blighted,
tough neighborhoods. Then the offerings expanded.
“In 1994 the institute developed creative and innovative ways to convince
youngsters to say no to drug use. By 1995 their residential center had more than
150 high school students studying and living in a truly caring environment.”
“In 1996 it established the Therapeutic Clinic for the diagnosis and treatment
of psycho-social problems and early childhood learning disabilities.”
“It includes a Crisis Intervention Center and the Schatten-Fishbein Child
Care Center.”
“Today Jaffa Institute is giving new and better life to more than 4,000
children in Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Bat Yam and Jerusalem.”
