Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC)

Do you remember how important it was to you to stand up to bullies? The staff
at IRAC stands up to bullies every day! The IRAC mission is “to advance
religious freedom and pluralism, tolerance, social justice and civil liberties
in Israel. The Center has, for 16 years, been a leader in the struggle for freedom
of religion and conscience in Israel. “
There are groups in Israel that act just as do bullies in schoolyards. They
are big and strong and intolerant of the notion of equality. They do not want
anyone different from them to enjoy the same rights. This is especially so in
regard to freedom of religion when these bullies do everything possible to block
the efforts of Reform and Conservative Judaism in the Jewish State. They don't
want Reform and Conservative Jews to have their religious aspirations recognized.
They want to deflect from organized non-Orthodox Jewry freedom of religion and
equal religious rights.
IRAC takes the bullies to court, and wins! IRAC exposes in public forums, on radio,
in the press the weaknesses in the bullies' arguments. IRAC advocates freedom
of religion in the Jewish State; freedom of religion for everyone. In America,
we take such freedom for granted. If you plan to get married and you are Conservative
or Reform Jews and you want your rabbi to officiate at the wedding, you just go
ahead and make those arrangements. But in Israel such weddings are not valid.
IRAC says of its outreach, advocacy, and court centered actions that “it
flexes muscles in its two arms: the legal arm and the political arm. One knows
how to attack, the other knows how to embrace.” The two of them together
are able to advance the values of human equality, social justice and religious
tolerance in Israel. IRAC is essential. So is your support for it.
