Rabbis for Human Rights
View the agency’s website
There is no other organization like this anywhere! Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist
and Orthodox rabbis joined together in their commitment to defend human rights
of everyone in Israel and in the territories under Israeli control: Israelis
and Palestinians, Muslims, Christians and Jews, young and old, rich and poor,
citizens and foreigners.
These rabbis get involved where the rubber meets the road, putting their very
lives on the line. The rabbis emphasize that they “condemn Palestinian violence
and support Israel's legitimate efforts to defend her citizens.” They add,
“however, Judaism teaches that even in times of conflict, there are lines
which we dare not cross. The harming of innocent civilians crosses those lines.”
In recent days, the RHR position is being echoed by more and more military leaders
and political leaders, even from the Likud. RHR was correct all along, prophets
in our time.
Rabbis for Human Rights protests home demolitions and helps rebuild those homes.
They bring food and humanitarian aid to besieged Palestinian villages.
They bring human rights issues to the Israeli Supreme Court.
They generate throughout the world in the Jewish community petitions to convince
Israeli leadership to stop and prevent further human rights abuses.
These rabbis live what they pray, as should we all. They have more than earned
our support! As we read in Torah, “Justice, justice shall you pursue!” Doing so is not an option.
Rabbis for Human Rights received the “Speaker of the Knesset's Award with
this dedication: For the Quality of Life in the Field and Enhancing the Rule
of Law and Democratic Values, Protecting Human Rights and Encouraging Tolerance
and Mutual Respect. Your contribution is also an award. Please make it.
